Tools to conduct online training for free
New staffs joining your organization? How do you get them up to speed?
Most organizations would have proper procedures in place to help new employees fit in right away.
But I have heard of stories where by some are left idling for a week or two without a machine to work with but instead given some books and magazines to read just to kill time. It can be really frustrating for the newcomer to be greeted this way. If it’s me, I would think that this organization is ineffective and wasting valuable manpower. Image by Alex E. Proimos.
Scenarios like these could happen to organizations due to:
- Supervisors aren’t around to guide new staffs
- New staffs are just expected to fit in automatically
- Having no development / training / orientation plan
After all, they did ask the question during the interview session…. are you an independant worker and you said YES! I am!
The point of today’s post is to highlight several tools that organizations can utilize for free in order to train new and existing employees to become more skillful and effective in representing the company.
Online training tools can be used to deliver content and information to a learner in a structured way. For example, a new sales staff would need to know and learn about the company’s products and services before attending a training on how to invoice a customer. If it’s the other way round, he / she may have to relearn many things thus wasting valuable time.
These free online training tools which I’m about highlight are merely just tools without any information in it. The content / learning materials have to be developed by a training team or even individual departments within your organization.
Online training tools are meant to facilitate some of the following tasks:
- Content management
- Develop learning path
- Management assignments and course work
- Agenda and announcements
- Trainer / trainee management
Suitable for the following scenarios:
- Staff orientation / induction program
- Introducing a new product / service
- Conducting all sorts of training programs online
The best part about utilizing online training tools is its ability to reach out to employees from all around the world. If your organization is a multi national company with office presence from all over the world, online tools can provide numerous benefits such as:
- Instant access to key training details
- Cost savings – no need for trainers and trainees to fly about
- Staffs get to focus and work on key tasks rather than spend time on traveling
